What Is Sea Moss?

Eucheuma-cottonii is another name for this variety of wild crafted sea moss which is harvested from St. Lucia in the Caribbean and fully dried.  It contains an abundance of minerals and is a nutritious healing sea vegetable or seaweed that is found in some of Dr. Sebi’s therapeutic products, such as the Bromide Plus Powder.   Other common names include Irish sea moss, carrageen moss or simply “sea moss.”

Sea Moss is grows in various oceans worldwide and therefore presents in a variety of species, colors, textures and shapes, similar in the way that trees are vast and differ based on their climate and environment.

These sea moss – sea vegetables are mineral dense with many varieties containing 92 out of 102 minerals that are found in our bodies.  Just a few of the familiar vitamins and trace minerals in sea moss includes:

  • Iron
  • Calcium
  • Sulfur
  • Iodine
  • Selenium
  • Folate
  • Magnesium
  • Potassium

It is a natural and healthy whole food source of carrageenan (*unlike the lab created carrageenan extract or gum found in many processed foods and products.  *Source: Super Foods for Super Health).

Superfood Sea Moss Gel

Used as a nutritious thickening agent, the raw, blended sea moss gel serves as an excellent vegan substitute for gelatin, nuts, fats, and carbohydrates. Common uses include shakes, smoothies, sauces, desserts and so much more!

There is only a subtle hint of a sea smell, however it does not have a sea taste and will assume the flavor of whatever it is added to.  That’s a plus!

The sea moss gel can be stored for several weeks in the refrigerator.  Just be sure to store it in a glass container.  The dried sea moss can be stored in the pouch for months until ready for use.

If you are having trouble finding the Sea Moss in your area, we do have some available in our online shop shared below!

How To Make Sea Moss Gel

To make sea moss gel from the dried version we offer from St. Lucia, start with 1 oz. of the wild crafted sea moss.  Soak up to 2 hours in spring water to rehydrate. Rinse well.

Blend sea moss with 3 cups of spring water to make up to 32 oz. of gel. Refrigerate in a glass container and the gel will thicken further.  The final consistency is based upon the amount of water added when making the gel so adjust to preference if desired.  Refrigerate after preparing to store.  It can last for several weeks.

When made as a gel, it can be used as an Alkaline Electric or vegan thickener and emulsifier.  It’s a great addition to smoothies, soups and other recipes found on our website.  Additionally can be used as a gelling agent for raw food desserts, ice creams and more!
